Charging documents revealed his heart had been carved out and left lying on his stomach. Police also found Serena with slice wounds on her hands that she blamed on gardening tools. An autopsy later confirmed Gregory died from “multiple sharp force injuries” and his death was ruled a homicide. Three knives were recovered inside the property with blood on them, according to WGN-TV. Police initially reported to the home in Valparaiso – 80km southeast of Chicago – at around 8pm. While one of the family members dialled 911, they started receiving calls and texts from a friend of Serena, who had made the harrowing discovery. Serena has since been arrested and charged with murder. She appeared in court on Thursday morning via video link wearing a suicide vest as she pleaded not guilty. A judge ordered her to be held without bond, and she will appear in court on August 1 to determine the status of her legal representation. Prior to the alleged incident, Serena had a long criminal history. Her offenses include pleading guilty for substance abuse in 2024, driving while intoxicated in 2017 and public intoxication in 2016, NWI.com reported. Dolnics’ heartbroken sister, Jennifer, launched a GoFundMe to help cover the costs of her father’s funeral. “Recently my father was murdered by my sister,” she wrote. “This incident came and took a complete toll on me and my family. We have no preparation or anything to start.”
