Shura Committee reviews progress in logistics strategy implementation

Muscat: The Economic and Financial Committee at the Shura Council hosted on Tuesday a number of specialists from C. Steinweg Oman LLC, a company operating in the logistics services sector, as part of its efforts to examine and follow up on the indicators of economic progress made in implementing the Sultanate of Oman Logistics Strategy (SOLS 2040), and to assess the operational reality and challenges facing the sector.During the meeting, the company’s specialists delivered a visual presentation reviewing a range of data and information related to the performance of the logistics sector, with a focus on shipping activity at Sohar Port and the level of operations related to cargo handling and re- export. The honourable Committee Members received a comprehensive briefing on the key enablers contributing to supporting and developing the performance of companies operating in the ports’ shipping sector in Oman, alongside the challenges facing these companies and their implications for operational efficiency and the level of utilisation of the potential available within the logistics sector.The meeting also reviewed key statistics and data related to handling operations and their associated operational processes, alongside indicators related to re-export activity, reflecting the level of activity in these areas and their role in supporting the trade and economic movement linked to the logistics sector.In a related context, the Committee Members discussed with the specialists the level of progress made under the National Logistics Strategy 2040 from the perspective of companies operating in the sector, and raised a number of enquiries regarding the indicators reflecting the sector’s performance development, the extent of progress made towards achieving the targets, alongside the existing challenges and available opportunities to enhance the sector’s competitiveness and improve the efficiency of its operations.The Committee’s hosting of the specialists forms part of its interest in following up on economic files and sectors related to economic diversification, and assessing the reality of the logistics sector and its performance indicators, thereby contributing to forming a comprehensive picture of the level of progress in implementing its targets and the challenges that may face its development pathways.Separately, during the meeting, the Committee reviewed its opinion on the Ministry of Economy’s Annual Report for 2025.The meeting was chaired by Ahmed Al Sharqi, Chairman of the Economic and Financial Committee at the Shura Council, and attended by the honourable Committee Members, as part of the Committee’s second meeting held between the Third and Fourth Ordinary Sessions of the Tenth Term of the Council (2023–2027).
