Well, surprise might not be the right word since it was leaked multiple times before being revealed, but it’s still wild that a tie-in game from 2004 is getting a re-release more than two decades later. From what we’ve seen of the Shrek 2 remaster so far, it looks to be a faithful shine-up of the original game with slightly shinier graphics and a few new features like a photo mode. Since the reveal trailer, though, fans have worried that might not be entirely accurate, as there are fears that a key playable character has been axed. Shrek 2 Remastered Is Being Weird About Lil’ Red, For Some Reason She’s Not Even Mentioned In The Achievement List The Shrek 2 licensed game is strange for a lot of reasons (just look at the GTA-style wanted level in the Far Far Away level), but one of the biggest oddities is that it made Red Riding Hood, known as Lil’ Red, one of Shrek’s closest allies. Despite barely appearing in the films, Red is a main player in the Shrek 2 game, and appears in tons of levels. That’s made it very strange that Shrek 2 Remastered’s marketing has completely omitted her so far. She’s not in the reveal trailer at all, is missing from all of the screenshots that have been released, and isn’t even mentioned in the achievement list. While every other character’s bonus level has a picture of them, Lil’ Red’s is just a treasure chest. Lil’ Red’s Hero Time moment also doesn’t have an achievement tied to it, despite Fiona and Gingy getting them. All of this evidence has convinced Shrek 2 fans that she’s not in the game at all, as shown in a popular post from Redditor Crown-Me336 on the Shrek subreddit. Some theories were shared about why Lil’ Red has been left out, ranging from her rumoured appearance in Shrek 5 to the trailer simply wanting to focus on the most recognisable characters. That being said, you shouldn’t count Red Riding Hood out just yet. Twitter user ShrekHistory shared a screenshot of her in-game that appears to be legitimate, although it’s not clear where it originates from. Red is also in so many levels and cutscenes of Shrek 2 that it would be a lot of work to remove her from the game, which would be more in line with a remake. Those factors, especially the screenshot if it turns out to be real, are enough to convince me that Aspyr just hasn’t shown Lil’ Red yet, instead of outright cutting her from the game. Even still, it’s a very weird situation overall, and will arguably be even weirder if she ends up being in Shrek 2 Remastered with no changes.
