(Source: ITG)A lawyer slapped a man accused of molesting a minor girl in Bihar’s Jamui on Wednesday after he was produced in court in connection with the case.The accused, Hareram Yadav, was being escorted by police after his court appearance when lawyer Akash Pandey approached him and slapped him on the court premises.Speaking after the incident, Pandey said the accused should not have been merely slapped and that he “should have been shot dead”.When asked whether he had taken the law into his own hands, Pandey said he was ready to accept whatever punishment the law decided to give him. “I am an advocate but also a human being. I have humanity,” Pandey said.He was also asked why he reacted aggressively towards Yadav. Pandey said his reaction was based on what he had seen and what he had learnt about the incident involving the minor girl. “What they did was a complete condemnation. No society will accept this,” he said.HARE RAM YADAV IN COURTHareram Yadav was arrested in connection with the molestation and harassment of two Class 10 students in Jamui. The case came to light after a video showing the incident was circulated on social media.The incident took place on September 19 when the minor boy and girl were returning after visiting Madwa Pahad, a hill destination in Jamui. A group of men allegedly stopped their scooter, abused them and forced them to get off.The group was also seen chasing the two when they tried to escape. In the video, one man grabbed the boy by his collar, while another was seen grabbing the girl by the neck and lifting her off the ground.The girl was also allegedly touched inappropriately during the incident. The group later stopped the two from leaving, with one man seen pulling the girl by her hand as she tried to get away on the scooter.The two minors were also forced to apologise. The girl could be heard pleading with the men to let them go and promising that they would not return to the spot.The video triggered outrage after it surfaced on social media. Police subsequently began an investigation and arrested people in connection with the case, while efforts to trace the remaining accused continued.The incident also drew political reactions, with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi condemning the alleged assault and calling for the accused to be prosecuted under the POCSO Act.
