THE UK’s most expensive department store has already opened its Christmas shop – more than five months early. And for some shoppers, summer is not the time for festive fun. The display features giant nutcrackers, twinkling lights and even a fully-decorated Christmas tree, complete with baubles, candy canes and fake snow. The long-standing tradition to open Harrods’ festive department during the summer months has garnered its share of fans, who await the opening each year. But, for some, Christmas really can come too early. Commenting on Instagram, some users have reacted with dismay, with one shopper commenting: “It’s ridiculous in the middle of a summer heatwave. Let’s have summer first.” Another said: “Harrods have out done themselves. Last year it was August, this year it’s July…at this rate they might open the Christmas shop in spring 2027.” One simply commented: “No….just No.” Most read in Money Yet, no matter what time of the year, there will always be someone ready to celebrate. As one festive fan wrote: “I have been ready since February…this sweltering weather cannot end quickly enough for me!” For those wanting to escape the heat and partake in some Christmas magic themselves, the Knightsbridge-based festive department will be open until December.
