The gun, a 9mm Makarov calibre self-loading pistol, was fired three times during the struggle, missing Mr Unlu. Bolat was later charged with attempted murder, possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life, possessing ammunition with intent to endanger life, and possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence. The defendant was acquitted of counts one to three but entered a guilty plea to count four on August 17 at the Old Bailey. He is due to be sentenced on November 13. Both the intended target Mr Unlu and the gunman Bolat are said to have refused to co-operate with police – so it remains unclear what motivated the attempted shooting.
