The separation email arrived about an hour later.“All access got locked then an hour later the separation email came. Everyone knew layoffs were coming but I was completely shocked I was affected,” the Reddit user wrote. “I was practically still a junior developer with comparatively low compensation at 2 yoe (no promotion cycles from when I joined as a fresher). Moreover, I had never received a bad rating from my manager and was in fact given multiple high priority tasks routinely.” The Reddit user added that they had recently started preparing for a job switch and were already anxious because of the difficult job market. Made it 4.5 years and finally got the axe this round,” the Redditor wrote. “I know it comes from the top and they don’t know what is going on in my life but talk about timing. I am relieved I was wanting to move on and start a new job or career. Maybe work somewhere that does good in the world,” the Reddit user wrote.Oracle employee says the scare of layoffs felt smaller in front of life Then there was another employee who had spent much of the day worrying about whether they would be among those laid off. But life happened, and they realised that, in the bigger picture, there were things far more important than their job.“Then, in a matter of seconds, my baby started choking. Those few seconds changed everything,” the employee wrote. “Suddenly, there was no job. No layoff. No career. No money. No next promotion. Nothing else mattered.”The employee said there was only their child and the desperate hope that he would be okay. Thankfully, the baby was fine. The experience, however, made the employee reflect on how quickly priorities can change.“A job can be replaced. A career can take another direction. Money can be earned again. But the people we love are irreplaceable,” the employee wrote.Oracle employee laid off after 12 years of service Another story came from an employee's wife, who shared on LinkedIn that her husband had lost his Oracle job after 12 years at the company. In a LinkedIn post, she said the way he found out was particularly painful.“After working for Oracle for 12 years, all he got was being unable to log in to his system to get the news.” She wrote. “You could never see how much blood and sweat he poured into his job or the immense pressure he was under, because he always wore a smile and was there to help everyone around him.”While all these employees share the same pain of losing their jobs, their stories show that the layoffs are about more than headcount and restructuring. The company had already cut around 21,000 jobs during fiscal 2026, reducing its global workforce from roughly 162,000 to 141,000.
