Shipping delays caused by data breach: ‘Expect fake messages’

TechCrunch reports that hackers not only gained access to sensitive customer data during the July 29 breach, but have caused shipping delays — and in some cases, cancellations — for products from the companies it services. How long these delays will last remains unconfirmed.“On Aug. 1, CEVA Logistics confirmed to affected customers that a cyber intrusion was impacting part of its European contract logistics operations,” CEVA informed TechCrunch via statement. “As soon as the incident was identified, CEVA’s cybersecurity teams immediately activated its security protocols and launched a thorough investigation, which is still ongoing.“The operational impact is limited to eight warehouses. No other CEVA systems globally were affected, and all other operations continue without incident.” This includes luxury retailer De Bijenkorf, e-commerce company bol, and video game giant Valve. Valve has begun notifying its Steam customers in Europe that they might have been impacted, BleepingComputer states. “CEVA is still investigating this attack, but as Valve learned on Aug. 7, certain information about steam customers, including you, was likely compromised,” a company notice reads. “CEVA receives specific delivery-related information from Steam to be able to ship physical hardware to customers in Europe, and told us these are the details the attacker likely took.”“Expect fake messages — email, SMS or phone — that mention your hardware order and appear to come from Steam, Valve or a delivery company,” Valve adds, according to Windows Central.
