Sheffield Wednesday chief publicly declares Jamie Vardy interest but transfer faces major stumbling block

SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY have fallen on hard times recently, but their owner is hoping that Jamie Vardy will help them get back on their feet. They ended up going down on zero points. But new chairman David Storch has revealed he would like to bring Vardy home to his boyhood club. Sign up for the Football newsletter Thank you! Storch told talkSPORT: “At some point I’ll be able to tell a story; this might not be the right time, but Jamie is somebody that we would like to have at our club.” When asked if they’d like that conversation with Vardy sooner rather than later, Storch replied: “Let’s just say he’d be somebody we’d be thrilled to have. “Unfortunately, we do have restrictions we’re trying to figure out… how to get around the restrictions so we can put something in front of Jamie that makes sense for him.” Vardy has drawn interest from a host of clubs, including West Ham as they begin their battle in the Championship. The 39-year-old has been a free agent since departing then-Serie A side Cremonese at the end of June after scoring seven goals in 29 games. The 26-time England international has suggested he is not quite ready to retire, but did want to return to England after struggling to adapt his family to a foreign country. The former Premier League title winner was released from Wednesday as a teenager. He then embarked on a prolific non-league career before Fleetwood signed him in 2011.
