A winding-up petition is a legal court action creditors use to force a company into liquidation to recover unpaid debts. They claim if the former parent firm is wound up this week, the Blades face the real prospect of a sanction. Football finance experts warn a winding-up order could trigger the EFL‘s “two insolvency strikes and you’re out” rule. Under EFL regulations, an insolvency event at group level carries an automatic 12-point penalty. It could also disqualify co-owners Rosen or Eltoukhy under the league’s strict owners’ and directors’ test. In a full statement, a source close to the owners said: “We are disappointed Prince Abdullah is trying to hurt the club and its supporters with publicity stunts.
