As caesarean births outnumber vaginal births, we want to hear about your experiences with childbirth options in Greece. A medical team assists a childbirth. Photo: Pexels/Hannah Barata. Caesarean sections are much more common in Greece than natural vaginal births. According to the Hellenic Statistical Authority, ELSTAT, the majority of births in Greece are by C-section, the delivery of a baby through incisions, surgical cuts made in the belly and uterus. C-sections were carried out in 62.2 per cent of childbirths in Greece in 2025, and according to EU data, the country was in the top five in the bloc with the highest rate of C-sections in 2023. To understand why this is happening, we’re asking you to share your experiences. The key things we would like to know: Did you choose a doctor, a midwife, or both, to monitor your pregnancy and delivery? For what reason did you give birth by caesarean section? Is there sufficient information in Greece about the differences between C-sections and natural childbirth? Things to note: We will not publish any documents or names without prior consent. We do not plan to use specific examples, but rather to show more general, systemic problems. Your responses are secure and encrypted. Your stories will be used to help us with an ongoing investigation. How to take part? To submit your experience, please fill out this form. The questionnaire is available in English and Greek.
