The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has suspended seven officials following a raid by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC).In Thiru. Vi. Ka. Nagar zone, an Executive Engineer in the zone, Assistant Executive Engineer of Unit 16, Assistant Engineer of Division 74, and Junior Assistant in Revenue Section were suspended, based on FIR No.06/AC/2026/CC-II dt.6.7.2026.In Teynampet zone, three officials were placed under suspension following a joint surprise check, and a sanitary officer of Unit-27 and conservancy supervisor of Unit-26 were suspended.GCC Commissioner G.S. Sameeran said: “The DVAC raid happened a week ago and we received the report on Friday. These actions were taken based on inputs from DVAC. We have also pressed major charges against these officials and inquiry will be conducted and major penalties such as dismissal/removal from service will be awarded following due process. Further strict warnings have been issued to all officials in accordance with the instructions of the Honourable Chief Minister. I have also directed all Zonal Officers and Assistant Engineers to prominently display boards containing the DVAC contact numbers in all Corporation offices to facilitate the reporting of complaints.” Published - July 19, 2026 12:15 am IST
