Seth Meyers on Trump’s unpopularity: ‘Madam Web has a higher audience rating’

Seth Meyers examined Donald Trump’s lowest approval rating yet as Americans struggle to afford gas and groceries.The Late Night host started by taking aim at Trump’s recent justification for attacking Iran after the president said “it’s our turn”.Meyers said it was “not a good enough reason to keep a war going” and that “it’s a military conflict and not Othello”, referring to the board game.This week also saw Trump saying he would change the grass in Washington DC parks, comparing it to humans as it has a life also. “Does that mean grass can also get dementia?” Meyers quipped.With Anthony Fauci facing a Senate hearing this week. Trump has claimed that Joe Biden called him to tell him he was no good. Meyers said this was obviously a lie because “if you called Joe Biden, you’d still be on the phone right now”.Fauci has been testifying about the origins of Covid, which Meyers joked has Taylor Farms saying “please don’t be us”.Meyers also expressed frustration towards Republicans trying to blame Fauci as “your boss literally told us to drink bleach”.Trump’s approval rating has hit a new all-time low as, despite claiming during his campaign rallies that he would make America affordable again on day one, prices have instead gone way up.Meyers said that the day one claim “should have been an obvious red flag” as “what was the plan for day two?”Trump has since attacked the press for asking him about affordability and high prices as he claims they’re not his fault. “You’re the president!” he said. “Of course they’re asking you why prices are so high!”While Americans are struggling, Trump raked in $2bn last year and Meyers spoke about the double standards with rightwing pundits. “Obama wore a tan suit once and Republicans lost their minds,” he said.The same people also “relentlessly” accused the Biden family of corruption and various crimes despite Joe looking “like a guy that was just about to get pickpocketed”.Trump is now the least popular he’s ever been and that includes after January 6 with an approval rating of 32%. “Madam Web has a higher audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes,” Meyers said.He added that “most Americans oppose the Iran war and want it to end” and Trump’s back-and-forth on what is happening has been “erratic and insane”.
