Servo 0.5 Released: DuckDuckGo Properly Rendering, Up To 10x Faster Text Rendering

Servo 0.5 is out today as the newest monthly update to this open-source, Rust-based browser engine. Servo 0.5 ships many notable enhancements for benefiting those running the Servoshell example browser or looking at Servo as an opportunity for embedded use. Servo 0.5 picked up various new CSS features, DOM text selections are now visible, and various new DOM APIs. With Servo 0.5 they are also now able to render the DuckDuckGo landing page correctly after addressing an SVG image preload bug: Plus other real-world websites are beginning to render correctly now too. On the performance side, Servo 0.5 now uses multi-threaded rendering for the 2D canvas to greatly improve frame-rates. There is also up to 10x faster text rendering with the new Servo release. Servo 0.5 also updated its dependencies for addressing various security fixes. Among those updates were a newer ANGLE from Firefox 140 ESR for obtaining "many security fixes". For helping Servo's embed story as an alternative to the Chromium Embedded Framework, Servo 0.5 presents better documentation on making use of the Servo Rust crate. Servoshell is also now running on Android 10+ as opposed to only Android 13+ previously. With the Servo 0.5 release, the project is also now publishing Linux AArch64 binaries to complement the x86_64 builds. More details on the improvements made to Servo over the past month can be found via the Servo.org blog. Servo 0.5 source code and release binaries can be found at GitHub.
