serpentwithfeet Announces New EP Sentinel: Hear The Title Track

The Baltimore-born, New York-based artist serpentwithfeet continues to explore R&B tradition through the lens of queer sexuality, a rich basis for a fascinating career. After releasing the 2024 album Grip and its 2025 companion piece Grip Sequel, serpentwithfeet is coming back with a new EP called Sentinel. Its title track, co-produced with Brandon Juhan and Rahm, takes serpentwithfeet back to his gospel roots, combining lost and pleading vocals with murky, IDM-adjacent programming. Here's what the artist says about it:I was thinking about homoeroticism and the ways that men socialize when theyʼre isolated. Then I started thinking about patriarchy. One of the ways itʼs sustained is because men instinctively know their role. Whether youʼre the alpha or the beta, whatever those words mean, you know where you fit on the rung. Another grown man is willing to genuflect, to yield responsibility or become a little less autonomous because somebody else carries more power or privilege. For me, that feels like religion. It made me wonder what happens when we experience that erotically. What happens when we willingly let someone hold our heart because of the way they move through the world?Along with the studio version of "sentinel," serpentwithfeet has also shared a live performance of the track, taped in the woods of the Pacific Northwest.
