She’s dead set on never allowing her gran, Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins), back into her life, after her initial offer to act as a surrogate ended up with her getting pregnant by Ross Barton (Michael Parr), something she kept shtum about. While Sarah happily planned the life she’d been dreaming of with her husband, Jacob (Joe-Warren Plant) and their new baby, Charity was busy trying to keep her secret deeply under wraps, and she succeeded until recently. See, one person who did discover the truth was demon doctor and rapist, Dr Todd (Caroline Harker), who subjected Charity to a vicious blackmail campaign, before ultimately raping her. Let down by the police due to a lack of evidence, Charity finally had the chance to reclaim her power when Todd confronted her, though Sarah’s arrival and discovery of the rape blew the situation up, and when she shoved Todd, causing her to smash her head on a table and die, things hit an extreme level. Determined to cover for her granddaughter, Charity enlisted Serena Sugden (Casey Al-Shaqsy) to advise them on how to proceed, though she eventually took the entire rap for the crime, landing herself in the clink. Charity’s plight is tearing Sarah apart (Picture: Mark Bruce/ITV) DS Thea Ramsden (Chelsea Edge) took over the case, and immediately set about trying to nail Charity for the crime, completely disbelieving the Dingle ladies version of events, and when Sarah voiced her intentions of confessing, Charity revealed the truth about baby Leyla to Sarah to stop her from telling all. And while, as previously stated, Sarah wants nothing more to do with Charity, she’s also sickened at the thought of her grandma spending the rest of her life in prison for a crime that Sarah herself committed. After learning that Charity’s trial date was set from Serena as she crumbled over what was unfolding, Sarah struck gold when she discovered Serena and Thea together. When Thea learned from Serena that Sarah had rumbled their relationship, and worse, that she knew what actually happened to Todd, she was furious and headed off to confront Sarah. Sarah’s made some major threats (Picture: ITV) Despite Thea’s tough guy act, Sarah wasn’t intimidated and made it perfectly clear that she wanted Charity free, and if she didn’t get it, she’d drag all of them down together. Next week sees Serena pay Charity a visit to let her know what Sarah’s doing and try and get her to talk her down. The biggest problem? Sarah won’t talk to Charity at all, let alone listen to any warnings over the trouble she could potentially cause. The situation is desperate – can Charity get Sarah to talk to her? And if she does, will Sarah listen?
