Their shared resume boasts 14 Grand Slam doubles titles, three Olympic gold medals, and eight weeks tied at world No1. Serena was also paired with Carlos Alcaraz in mixed doubles. And while they won their opener – they exited in the quarterfinals. Meanwhile, Venus Williams, who received a singles wild card, broke another record as the oldest women’s singles player at the tournament since Renee Richards in 1981. Now the same arguments have come from fans pleading with them to drop the sport. One X user wrote: “They need to let it go.” Someone else said: “Why? Aren’t there more deserving, up and coming players you could give a wild card to?” A third quipped: “Serena, we love your sister, but you might need another partner.” Another asked: “Another year of wasting wild cards…” The 2026 US Open women’s doubles draw will be revealed on September 1.
