Sentry’s Dairyland to Return $30 Million to Florida Auto Insureds

Auto insurer Dairyland announced that it will return $30 million in savings to eligible Florida private passenger automobile policyholders through a one-time dividend. The insurer is crediting legal system changes signed into law in 2023 and “improved market stability” for the savings. Dairyland said it has been able to reduce its overall loss costs. In addition to the one-time dividend, Dairyland recently lowered its Florida auto insurance rates by an average of 14%. “Recent reforms have helped create a fairer market environment for everyone, and we’re committed to sharing the benefits of those improvements with Florida drivers while helping them manage the cost of their auto insurance.” said Pete Anhalt, president of personal lines at Sentry, Dairyland’s parent company. Sentry acquired Dairyland in 1966. For policyholders with a premium balance due, the dividend will be applied toward any outstanding balance and future bills. Policyholders whose accounts are paid in full, as well as those whose policies have been canceled with no premium due, will receive a refund. Eligible Florida policyholders should begin receiving their dividends within 14 to 21 days. According to 2025 data from the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation (OIR), the state’s top five auto insurers—representing 78% of the market—reduced rates an average of 6.5% in 2025. Also, Florida drivers could expect to receive more than $1 billion in auto-insurance refunds as insurers began passing savings from reduced litigation and improved market conditions back to consumers. In June of this year, USAA announced a $500 million dividend for Florida auto policyholders—also pointing to tort reform measures as a factor making the distribution possible. According to the company, the dividend was to be doled out to roughly 830,000 members who held USAA auto policies in Florida between 2023 and 2025.
