Stock markets are likely to open higher on Wednesday as investors turn their attention to the launch of Jio Platforms' record-breaking initial public offering (IPO), while optimism over a possible US-India trade deal could support sentiment. However, elevated crude oil prices near $110 a barrel may limit gains, keeping investors cautious about inflation and the impact on India's import bill. The GIFT Nifty was trading at 23,017 at 7:57 am, indicating a positive start for the Nifty 50, which closed at 22,888.95 on Monday. Markets were closed on Tuesday for Dussehra. The Sensex and Nifty had fallen more than 1% each on Monday after quarterly results from private lenders HDFC Bank and Axis Bank raised concerns over their net interest margins. Investors will now assess whether buying interest returns after the recent correction, with earnings and global developments likely to drive stock-specific moves. JIO PLATFORMS IPO IN FOCUSJio Platforms' $3.2 billion IPO opens for subscription on Wednesday, in what is set to be India's largest-ever public issue. The company has already raised $853.3 million from anchor investors, including the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, BlackRock and Fidelity. The offering is expected to keep the telecom, technology and digital services group in focus, with investors watching subscription trends and the response from institutional and retail buyers. Bajaj Finance shares will also be on the radar after the non-banking financial company reported a 28.7% year-on-year rise in quarterly profit on Monday, supported by strong growth in its loan book.Optimism over a possible trade agreement between India and the US could provide another source of support for domestic equities. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio told CNN-News18 on Tuesday that he expected Washington and New Delhi to reach a trade deal within weeks rather than months.Progress towards an agreement could help sentiment, although investors will look for concrete developments before assessing its potential impact on trade and corporate earnings.CRUDE OIL NEAR $110 A BARREL REMAINS A RISKHigher crude oil prices remain a key headwind for Indian markets. Brent crude futures rose more than 1% to around $110 a barrel, with investors monitoring disruptions to Red Sea shipping and threats to oil infrastructure in Saudi Arabia.India imports a large share of its crude oil requirements, making the economy vulnerable to sustained increases in energy prices. Higher oil prices can raise the import bill, put pressure on the rupee, complicate the inflation outlook and squeeze corporate margins. The direction of crude prices will therefore remain important for investors as they assess whether the market can sustain an early recovery.NIFTY OUTLOOK: 23,175 KEY LEVEL TO WATCHPabitro Mukherjee, Deputy Vice President-Research at Bajaj Broking, said the Nifty had formed a sizeable bearish candle on Monday, erasing the previous session's gains. The pattern resembled a bearish engulfing candle, indicating profit booking after a rally of nearly 1,000 points over the previous two weeks.Mukherjee expects the market to open higher on Wednesday amid positive global cues, but said the Nifty's ability to reclaim Monday's high of 23,175 would be crucial.A move above 23,175 could signal an extension of the recent recovery and open the way towards 23,500 in the coming sessions. That level represents the 50% retracement of the decline from 24,774 to 22,180.However, if the index fails to cross Monday's high, Mukherjee expects corrective consolidation in the 22,500-23,175 range. He identified 22,800 as immediate support, while 22,500-22,600 is a key support zone from a short-term perspective. The market's direction will depend on whether the positive opening indicated by GIFT Nifty translates into sustained buying. Investors will track the Jio Platforms IPO launch, developments on the US-India trade deal, crude oil prices and further quarterly earnings. While the IPO and trade deal optimism could support risk appetite, elevated oil prices and concerns over bank margins remain potential headwinds. The Nifty's movement around 23,175 may offer an important signal on whether the recent recovery can resume or the market enters a period of consolidation.(Disclaimer: The views, opinions, recommendations, and suggestions expressed by experts/brokerages in this article are their own and do not reflect the views of the India Today Group.
