Self-driving car slams into police van during test run

A test drive of a home-built, remotely controlled car took an unfortunate turn in Islamabad when the vehicle crashed straight into a parked police van during a demonstration. The demonstration appears to be going smoothly, right up until the steering veers towards the police vehicle and the test ends with a crunch. Footage filmed on Aug. 30, 2026 shows journalist Muhammad Aalijah in the front passenger seat as the car travels along the road without anyone at the wheel. Video by Viory"There is awareness through the internet as well. Things are happening all around. There is no shortage of talent in Pakistan," Aalijah said during the demonstration. The experimental system was developed by Abbottabad-based technology enthusiast Ehsan Zafar and allows the car to be operated remotely over an internet connection. Local reports said a connectivity problem caused the vehicle to lose control, turning the technology showcase into a viral moment online.
