Selena Gomez Says Vaping Nicotine Changed Her Voice

You'll Be Burnin' Up Over Selena Gomez's Cheeky Nod to Ex Nick Jonas in New TikTokSelena Gomez wants fans to know her bad habit is not good for you, either. The Rare Beauty founder detailed her struggles with vaping nicotine, sharing her voice has been permanently changed due to prolonged use. “I’m not gonna be able to change my voice,” Gomez explained in a video posted on her Instagram Stories Oct. 18. “I vaped nicotine a lot, and just so everyone knows that's somewhat vaped.” “Nicotine is so hard to quit,” she continued. “I think I just wanted to say if you're going through it, or if you're even trying to vape, it's just not worth it. It’s so stupid.” “It’s changed my voice,” Gomez added. “So if you guys don't like listening to my voice, that's totally understandable. I don't mind. Just don't listen to it.” But the “Good For You” singer shared that she’s been able to quit her habit. “I am really excited because I stopped,” she said, “and I just hope we can keep it up. It's really hard.”And the Only Murders in the Building star concluded her video by sharing an inspirational message for others who may be struggling. “I know if you are going through something, you can get through it too,” Gomez said. “It sucks.” Gomez has previously opened up about her voice experiencing changes, though due to other factors. Indeed, last year, the “Calm Down” singer addressed fan concern about her voice, pointing to side effects from her medications used to treat lupus and bipolar disorder. “I’ve gotten this question a few times. Sometimes, when I’m on…nevermind, there’s no excuse,” she shared during an Instagram Live in December 2025. “I don’t really care. I think my point is that things happen.” “My throat kind of swells on the inside sometimes,” she added. “That’s all.”Chloe Kern/WireImageBut Gomez expressed gratitude to her fans for bringing the topic to her attention. “I’m glad you’re being real with me on the Live,” she noted. “I appreciate it.” Despite the 34-year-old’s voice potentially being forever altered, there are other changes she’s happy to welcome into her life, specifically the effects of getting older. “I don’t feel like it’s a bad thing,” Gomez told People in an interview published Sept. 16. “Getting older has been so fun. I’m not scared at all. I love getting older. Things are going to change and things are going to sag, but you’re alive. I think age is just a number in many ways.” For a look back at Gomez’s journey in the spotlight, keep reading...ANDREAS BRANCH/Patrick McMullan via Getty Images2008Jean-Paul Aussenard/WireImage2008Jeff Daly/Getty Images2008Craig Sjodin/Disney Channel via Getty Images2009Gregg DeGuire/FilmMagic2009Jordan Strauss/WireImage2009DAVID CROTTY/Patrick McMullan via Getty Images2010Michael Buckner/Getty Images2010Frederick M.
