Earlier, 58 police personnel were deployed for his protection. This has now been downgraded to 33 personnel. Core Cell security, which is an elite, specialised unit of the Security Branch CID, is tasked with providing round-the-clock protection to the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.“The ‘Core Cell category’ security that was being provided to the former Chief Minister at a level equivalent to Z-category security has been withdrawn with effect from Saturday. As he is now a former Chief Minister, he will henceforth be provided only escort security,” said an official.In its place, Mr. Stalin is now being provided with only escort security comprising four police personnel headed by a Sub-Inspector (SI).
