Secret Cinema permanent venue in London a step closer after getting green light

An entertainment company which produces immersive cinema experiences is one step closer to opening its first permanent venue in London.The film and production business has now applied to the council for a premises licence that will allow its new location to remain open and sell alcohol until 11.30pm on weekdays and midnight on weekends. Since 2007, London-based Secret Cinema has been putting on its signature immersive film productions across the capital. It blends live theatre, themed environments and movie screenings to fully immerse audience members in the worlds of their favourite stories.What the new venue could look likeSecret Cinema/ LDRSIt is currently running Grease The Immersive Movie Musical at Battersea Park until mid-September and its past productions include Guardians of the Galaxy at Wembley in 2022 and Stranger Things in Canning Town in 2019.Describing its new project on the peninsula, Secret Cinema said: “The state-of-the-art immersive venue will be designed flexibly, as a potential home to a successive series of immersive productions based on some of the most famous and high profile film titles in the world.”The new cinema will be located right next to the new Troubador Theatre which is currently under construction. Planning permission for the theatre was granted earlier this year, and the 3,000-seat venue will be the capital’s largest capacity theatre once built.Greenwich Council’s Licensing Sub-Committee B will decide whether to grant Secret Cinema’s new premises licence on August 11.The premises licence application has received two objections from local residents. Both feared the new venue would create the opportunity for late-night noise and disturbance to Greenwich Peninsula residents living nearby.
