Second Brit tourist, 54, dies after 20ft plunge when wooden bannister collapsed at holiday resort in Lanzarote

NewsWorld News A SECOND British tourist has died almost a year after the two holidaymakers fell over 20ft after a bannister collapsed in Lanzarote. He and his friend, 56-year-old Darren Silcox also from Cwmbran, Gwent, fell into an atrium stairwell at the Galeon Playa Apartments in Costa Teguise on October 25. He was transferred to University Hospital Llandough, near Cardiff, in November but sadly died on July 10. The inquest into Silcox’s death heard he died from traumatic brain injury, skull fractures and skull lacerations. The proceedings were adjourned until April 14 next year when a joint inquest is expected to be held. Silcox was a much-loved shopkeeper who owned two stores in Pontnewydd and Five Locks. One shopper said: “This is terrible. “It is a family store and everyone knows them – what a shocking way to go. “He was always very hard working.” Locals say his wife Kim died a year after an illness. One said: “They have two children who are now left without parents – it is tragic.” Spain‘s Civil Guard has launched a probe into the circumstances surrounding the incident which happened on October 25. Back in 2023, an 18-year-old also died after falling from a balcony at Galeon Playa Apartment-Hotel. David Alexander plunged from the balcony while on holiday with his family. Heartbroken friends and family have remembered him as a “much-loved and respected” college student. Comment now
