Sean McVay: I don't like it that the Rams are 1-2, but we grow through adversity

Published October 3, 2026 04:25 AM Rams coach Sean McVay isn’t happy with his team’s 1-2 start this season, but he isn’t losing confidence in the long-term plan, and he even thinks the Rams might be better in January for what they went through in September.“Do I love the fact that we’ve played three games and came up short in a couple of them? No, of course not,” McVay said. “But what I also know is this: There’s been other moments that it seems like you’re in some storms, but this too shall pass, and let’s do the next right thing. Let’s lean in. What kind of lens do we want to see this through? Do we want to see this as, this is happening to me or for me, and how can I learn from it, how can I grow? It’s a challenge for me: What kind of leader do I want to be for this group?”McVay said he believes in growing through adversity, even if it doesn’t feel good at the time.“Do I want to go through that adversity? No, but this is what we’re going through,” McVay said. “That’s what makes it meaningful. When things come easy, sometimes when you have success you become less resilient. I do not like it but I do know that’s where the real growth occurs.”McVay said he thinks when this season is over, his team might be more proud of its accomplishments because of the early struggles. “Sometimes it doesn’t go down for you and I always think about the people I respect the most are the ones that handle the tough times the best,” McVay said. “Tough times don’t last. Tough people do. The most growth that’s ever occurred for me by far is when we’ve been in those adverse moments when you don’t like it when you’re in them, but then you look back and say you’re proud of the person you became from them.”Up next for the Rams is a game at Philadelphia on Sunday, and McVay acknowledged his own struggles against the Eagles.“I’m excited to swing and compete again with this group. This story is not yet written. There are people who feel otherwise, but we’ve got a lot of ball ahead of us,” McVay said. “We’ve got a great challenge. This is an excellent place to play at, great fan base. We’re not going to run away from that we haven’t gotten the results when we’ve gone up there. Last year was a gut-wrenching one but I’m not afraid to put it out there again.”For the Rams, who were heavy preseason favorites to win the Super Bowl, falling to 1-3 would be a massive letdown. But McVay continues to believe that his team won’t stay down.
