Tory leader Kemi Badenoch’s Shadow Energy Secretary Claire Coutinho is to present the findings of the report by think-tank Onward and energy advisers Transira Energy. It says the price of wind and solar fail to reflect extra costs loaded on bills such as pylons, cables and back-up generation when the wind does not blow. She will blast former Energy Secretary Ed Miliband’s Clean Power 2030 target for trying to remove carbon from electricity generation no matter the cost. She will also accuse him of axing a full costing of renewable power which she commissioned when Energy Secretary. She will add: “Conservatives are not in denial about climate change, it’s the Left who are in denial about the fact their climate policy is failing.” The legally-binding target to hit Net Zero by 2050 was introduced by the Tories in 2019.
