Scott McTominay, 29, breaks silence after ex-Man Utd star forced to undergo heart surgery leaving fans worried

Speaking to reporters at the event, McTominay said: “I’m fine. The procedure was something I’d planned to do with the club for quite a while. “We’d already talked about it in pre-season. I’ll be out for a few weeks.” Arrythmia can be treated by a procedure known as pulsed field ablation, which is when electrical pulses destroy the section of the heart that’s causing the faulty rhythm. McTominay is expected to only be sidelined for weeks rather than months, but this means that he will miss new Scotland boss Sebastian Pocognoli’s first four matches in charge. Their talisman played the full 90 in a 2-0 win at Genoa on the opening day before a 56-minute appearance against Como last Sunday. McTominay burst through at boyhood club Manchester United under Jose Mourinho and went on to play 255 times for the Red Devils before moving to Napoli in 2024. Asked this week about a potential reunion with Mourinho, McTominay said: “If Jose Mourinho called me to sign for Real Madrid, honestly, I would think about it.” For now, the midfielder’s focus is on getting back on the pitch for Napoli. Mild refers to the severity of the case, benign can mean harmless or non-cancerous, cardiac is the heart and arrhythmia means that the heart occasionally beats out of its normal rhythm. Symptoms of an arrhythmia include feeling like the heart is pounding, fluttering or missing a beat. It may also cause lightheadedness, chest pain or discomfort and feeling tired. There are all sorts of causes of arrhythmia, from high blood pressure, to a heart valve disease, medicines and alcohol. Many people with an arrhythmia may not need any treatment at all or will only need regular check-ups, depending on their cause. But possible treatments include medicines like beta blockers, an ablation, cardioversion or pacemaker. Most arrhythmias are not dangerous, but some can be.
