That home‑grown energy activity has created deep engineering capability, specialist manufacturing, and highly transferable skills that Scottish companies now export to markets around the world.”However, the Export 100 data shows a broader shift, with a large proportion of high-growth exporters operating in industrial and manufacturing sectors. These businesses typically occupy niche positions in global supply chains, producing components, materials and systems for sectors including energy, construction and infrastructure. Growth is often underpinned by long-term contracts and repeat business, rather than one-off transactions, providing greater visibility over future revenue.Food and drink also features in the listing, but increasingly through supply chain activity rather than finished branded products. Companies supplying ingredients and processing services are benefiting from continued global demand linked to Scotland’s wider food manufacturing base.¶The rankings also point to advanced manufacturing capability, with firms exporting into defence and aerospace markets.
