Scots ferry evacuated over ‘bomb threat’ as overboard passenger rescued from sea

PASSENGERS on a Scots ferry were forced to evacuate over a reported bomb threat following a rescue operation. CalMac services were cancelled this evening amid an “ongoing security incident” at Ardrossan Harbour. A person was reported being overboard while the ferry travelled from Brodick to Ardrossan at around 5.30pm. They were then rescued by the CalMac’s Fast Rescue Craft. Passengers were evacuated from the vessel to a nearby Asda car park, where police carried out searches. All remaining services from Ardrossan have been cancelled this evening. A statement from CalMac read: “Emergency services are dealing with an ongoing security incident in Ardrossan Harbour following the rescue of a passenger from the water this evening. “Our Fast Rescue Craft was launched and removed them successfully from the sea. HM Coastguard were alerted. “Remaining evening sailings from Ardrossan to Brodick are cancelled and we will contact customers with affected bookings.” Most read in The Sun A spokesperson for HM Coastguard said: “At around 17:25 today HM Coastguard attended an incident off Ardrossan. “Coastguard Rescue Teams from Largs and Ardrossan, and Troon RNLI lifeboat were sent. “Police Scotland and Scottish Ambulance Service also attended.” Comment now
