While James Gunn's DC Universe franchise is still working on its reboot for Batman, the next installment for Matt Reeves' version of the Caped Crusader is in the works. However, while Bruce Wayne's new adventure is being worked on, there are a lot of mysteries surrounding the sequel to the director's 2022 entry. In a new interview with ET Tonight, Scarlett Johansson finally opened up about her role in The Batman - Part II, as she was asked what was more challenging between joining the DC sequel and her upcoming part in The Exorcist: Martyrs. The Marvel Cinematic Universe alum stated that it was her gig in the Robert Pattinson-continuation that pushed her the most out of her comfort zone, saying, "I don't know; it gave me a lot of existential angst for some reason. It was very hard to figure out. I don't know why. Whether it was just the role or where I am in my life, or what's going on, it was hard to crack it. That's all I can say about it. It was a tough role in a lot of ways." There have been rumors that the former Black Widow actress is playing Gilda Dent in The Batman - Part II story, but as of writing, DC Studios and Warner Bros. have not confirmed or denied whether that is who she is supposed to be portraying. Gilda is better known as Harvey Dent's wife in the comics, and if reports are to be true, Two-Face is seemingly in Reeves' 2028 sequel, and it may be another MCU alum who is playing him. Rearrange the movies into the correct US release order. Sebastian Stan and Brian Tyree Henry, who star as Bucky Barnes and Phastos for Marvel Studios, respectively, have both been tapped for secret roles in the highly-anticipated follow-up. When Stan spoke to ScreenRant's Liam Crowley about boarding the film, and whether or not his mystery character is someone he may reprise in The Batman universe, he shared, "I don't know. Very much like the Marvel experience, it was always one thing at a time. You got to go one experience at a time because you never know how these movies are going to be. And that's how we always treated the Marvel stuff. Even though there are always plans and amazing ideas, you just have to see when you get there. But I feel very blessed to have been part of another family, so to speak." While Reeves has stepped away from the physical production process due to a personal family matter, he is still part of principal photography through the help of Steven Soderbergh, who is overseeing the on-set filming. Pattinson spoke recently about Soderbergh coming on board, stressing that "I am so happy he's come on to help Matt. It's incredibly generous of him – and he's doing it in the loveliest way. It's completely selfless. I think Matt had put so much work into the script, and we're almost done. So for someone to come in and say, 'I just want to help Matt do it; I want to do it in conjunction with him and just get it to the edit.' And to have someone who's as talented as Steven doing it is great." The Batman - Part II opens in theaters on February 18, 2028.
