Scandinavia and Trawlerman headline day one of Goodwood where I reckon a 66-1 roughie could sneak into the places

Subsequently he went on a staying rampage which saw him become one of the great warriors of British racing. There’s no doubt the roof will be raised if he manages to conquer for John & Thady Gosden, but for me the simple truth is SCANDINAVIA is a better horse, and I expect the Aidan O’Brien-handled four-year-old with the younger legs to come out on top once again. Scandinavia is the winner of seven of his 11 races and unbeaten in his last six – including the St Leger – and I actually think he’s the one who will most enjoy a return to two miles. For those not interested in a favourite, I suspect Miss Alpilles, the outsider of the field, will run much better than her odds suggest for those wanting a speculative each-way hope. She was far from disgraced at Royal Ascot. ITV coverage starts with the opening handicap for older horses over 1m2f. Most read in Horse Racing George Scott is a terrific trainer and his AL AALI might have every chance here from a fine draw in stall three. As a horse who will be dropped out he will need some luck, but he was running all right at Sandown and Newmarket (over 1m4f) before winning at the latter track in good style the other day. He’s up to 93 for that but he was 104 once so there might be some wiggle room. William Buick rides. The Group 2 Vintage Stakes is for juveniles over 7f. PIKACHU has a decent each-way chance for Amo, Charlie Johnston and David Egan. He has just over a length to make up on Al Hudaiba from the Superlative Stakes at Newmarket but is now 3lb better off at the weights and he ducked right at the start that day which won’t have helped. The Chesham fifth is a pretty useful horse and he’s too big a price not to chance each-way. Plenty of pace on in the Group 2 Lennox Stakes over 7f. With Witness Stand and Qirat both likely to go forward this will set up as best as it ever will for LAKE FOREST who should in any case take all the beating for William Haggas and Cieren Fallon. Rated 119 the likely warm favourite is the best of these on paper and was far from disgraced in the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot when staying on well over the 6f. His running style always makes things tough, but this is a huge opportunity. On his day he’s as good as any horse out there in Europe over 7f. ITV end with a handicap over 5f. Clearly the draw will be key here and with Run Boy Run there to give him a lead old boy TWILIGHT CALLS is the selection for Saffie Osborne and Richard Spencer. A visor has brought about improvement in the former classy sprinter, and while in three runs he’s up from 80 to 90 in the ratings he’s still chucked in on form shown only last year when he was rated up to 104.
