Saudi national in his 40s is stabbed on Mayfair's Berkeley Square as man, 58, is arrested over 'attempted robbery'

See more Daily Mail on Google - save us as a Preferred Source Published: 12:04 EDT, 4 September 2026 | Updated: 12:15 EDT, 4 September 2026 A Saudi national was last night stabbed in an attempted robbery in central London.The victim, in his 40s, was attacked in Berkeley Square, an upmarket square in Mayfair which is home to elegant Georgian townhouses and the famous private members' club Annabel's.The man was treated at the scene before being rushed to hospital, where he remains with non-life threatening injuries.A 58-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm, possession of an offensive weapon and attempted robbery.The suspect was also taken to hospital, where he remains, and treated for minor injuries. The Saudi Embassy in the UK confirmed one of its nationals had been stabbed in Mayfair and is working closely with the British authorities.Earlier this year, the Mail revealed that the area around Berkeley Square has become one of the worst in London for robberies and street crime with official figures suggesting you are 30 times more likely to be a victim of crime here than elsewhere in the capital.A spokesman for the Met Police said: 'Police were called to reports of a stabbing on Berkeley Square, Mayfair at 21:38hrs on Thursday, 3 September. He was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital where he remains. His injuries have been deemed non-life threatening.'A man, aged 58, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of grievous bodily harm, possession of an offensive weapon and attempted robbery. 'The Embassy affirms that it is following up on the circumstances of the incident with the relevant security authorities, and emphasizes the importance of expediting the completion of the investigations, uncovering all details of the incident, and holding the perpetrator accountable in accordance with the law. 'It also underscores the importance of taking the necessary measures to enhance the safety of citizens and visitors in public areas. 'The Embassy urges citizens to exercise caution and vigilance, and to avoid carrying valuable possessions in public places.'
