The gaming industry might be at a notable low point this year, but 2026 has still had a ton of amazing games to keep us all distracted from the imminent digital future. Resident Evil Requiem, Crimson Desert, 007 First Light, and Pokopia all jump to mind as the heavy-hitters, but Saros certainly stands out as one of the highlights. Housemarque’s latest punishing shooter debuted to strong critical reviews that looked set to make it another first-party gem like Returnal. Its reported sales figures told another story, though, and caused a lot of fans to worry about the developer’s future with PlayStation amid closures and layoffs. Thankfully, it seems like that’s not the case. PlayStation Seems Happy With Saros Reviews And Its Playerbase One Of 2026’s Best Games Is Getting The Love It Deserves Earlier this week, PlayStation shared its latest financial results with the world, which not only finally resulted in a response about its move away from physical releases, but also gave us a glimpse at how some of its recent games are performing. As pointed out by Twitter user Genki_JPN, Saros was one such game featured in the report. After mentioning MLB The Show and Helldivers 2’s live-service performance, the financial report positively highlights Saros and its “high acclaim with a Metacritic score of 88”. While the review scores were never in doubt, the report interestingly praises the game for its “steadily expanding user base”, suggesting that it’s still growing. This is refreshing to see considering it was reported shortly after launch that Saros’ sales numbers had a “lukewarm start”. Alinea Analytics did speculate that the strong word of mouth could pay off for the game in the long run, which seems to be what’s happening based on PlayStation’s own analysis. I hope this means that PlayStation understands that not every game needs to be a massive sales driver, and that there's room for more smaller and focused games. Of course, it’s worth remembering that this financial report comes from PlayStation itself and is meant to be shared with investors, which means that it’s likely going to skew more positively overall. Even with that in mind, it’s good to see the game’s positive reception and growing community being highlighted as a positive after all that doubt.
