Sangeetha Balachandra to sing dasara padas for 25 hours in Udupi in bid for Golden Book of World Records

The attempt will be made on August 23-24, 2026. | Photo Credit: Special Arrangement Playback singer Sangeetha Balachandra will sing dasara padas non-stop for 25 hours in Udupi in a bid for an entry in the Golden Book of World Records.Addressing press persons in Mangaluru on August 18, she said that she will sing the songs from 6.30 a.m. on August 23 to 7.30 a.m. on August 24 at Geetha Mandira, near Udupi Sri Krishna Mutt.The Kannada compositions of Purandaradasa, Kanakadasa, Gopaladasa, Vijayadasa, and other dasas will be sung.“About 250 compositions will be sung in new ragas. Those compositions are not usually sung by other singers,” she said.Ms. Balachandra said that she will take a 10-minute break every three hours. She will be accompanied by eight other musicians on the keyboard, rhythm pad, flute and tabla in two batches during the endeavour.Ms. Balachandra, a top-grade artist of All India Radio, said that the attempt has been named as ‘Panchavimshati’. It is for the first time in Karnataka and, probably for the first in the country, that dasara padas will be sung for non-stop 1,500 minutes (25 hours) by a woman.She is attempting to sing non-stop for 25 hours as she has completed 25 years as a playback singer and as a top-grade artist of AIR.
