Sandeep Reddy Vanga confirms Prabhas' Spirit will get an A certificate

Filmmaker Sandeep Reddy Vanga has said that Prabhas-starrer Spirit will receive an A certificate, making it clear that the film is not being made with a family audience in mind. Speaking at the trailer launch of Romanchakam, the director said the film's violent and intense content makes an adult rating expected.The filmmaker also addressed another major talking point around the project: its release date clash with SS Rajamouli's Varanasi, starring Mahesh Babu and Priyanka Chopra. While Spirit is scheduled to release on March 5, 2027, Varanasi is set to arrive in theatres on April 7, 2027, leaving a gap of around 37 days between the two films.Sandeep spoke about Spirit while attending the launch event of Romanchakam. Bhadrakali Pictures is run by Sandeep and his brother Pranay Reddy Vanga. Spirit stars Prabhas as a police officer and is currently lined up for a March 2027 release.With both films expected to draw large crowds, Sandeep Reddy Vanga was asked whether the gap between the release of Spirit and Varanasi would be enough. He did not appear concerned about the two films arriving close to each other. “It will be sufficient. There is around a 37-day gap. Also, that film (Varanasi) is bigger than Spirit," the director said.The filmmaker was asked again about the clash during the interaction. On that occasion, he joked that the reporter perhaps wanted Spirit to move out of Varanasi's way, drawing amusement at the event. Spirit marks Sandeep Reddy Vanga's return to T-Series after their collaboration on Animal in 2023. He has written and directed the upcoming action drama, which is backed by Bhushan Kumar, Pranay Reddy Vanga, Krishan Kumar and Prabhakar Reddy Vanga.Casting row around the filmThe project has also remained in the news over its casting. Earlier reports said Deepika Padukone had exited the film following differences over work-hour demands, after which Triptii Dimri, who had worked with Sandeep Reddy Vanga in Animal, was reported to have joined the cast.Producer Pranay Reddy Vanga later said remuneration and timing were among the reasons for the change, while also claiming that Deepika had sought a 10 per cent share of the film's profits.He said, “The reason is the same as what was already mentioned. One was remuneration, the second was timing. Apart from that, there are some other reasons too. Soon after, everything went overboard. See, she can ask for anything. If we are willing to give, we can give. But the economics [budget] should also work out for us. We thought that it was not working. This is why we thought of other options. Once we started looking for other options, they started leaking everything.”The issue returned to focus after Deepika liked an Instagram post by journalist Janvi Manchanda that questioned the criticism around her reported profit-share demand and compared it with similar arrangements negotiated by male actors.
