He wrote: “Today, I have submitted a transfer request. “I want to make it clear that this decision has nothing to do with the supporters or my team-mates. “I have a great deal of respect for both. However, at this stage of my career, I need the opportunity to play regular football. “Last summer, I had the opportunity to move elsewhere, but the club did not allow me to leave. The same happened again in January. “This summer, there have once again been multiple offers from clubs across Europe, but Southampton have requested as much as 50 per cent of any future transfer fee received by a prospective club, which has made those opportunities extremely difficult to pursue. Last term, back on the south coast, the England youth international made 12 Championship appearances under Tonda Eckert. And so far in this campaign, he has come off the bench twice to play a total of 21 minutes in the Championship – assisting a goal against Stoke – before being an unused sub against Millwall. Edozie opted against a £5million move to Cardiff but is willing to take a pay cut to leave Southampton. Lecce, Red Bull Salzburg and other teams on the continent are also keen – although Saints are playing hard-ball on the fee despite his contract running down. Edozie has one season left on his original five-year contract signed in 2022, 12 months after his solo Manchester City appearance. He started in attack alongside Ferran Torres and Riyad Mahrez as Pep Guardiola’s side lost the 2021 Community Shield to Leicester. Southampton have been contacted for comment. Comment now
