Samsung's 2025 flagships get the Galaxy Z Fold 8's best tricks with this major update

Sign in to your Android Police account After months of testing on the Galaxy S26 series, Samsung expanded the One UI 9 beta program for the Galaxy S25 and other devices in early September. Now, just four weeks later, the company is rolling out the stable update for beta testers. Samsung Galaxy S25, Z Fold 7, and Z Flip 7 units enrolled in the One UI 9 beta program in South Korea are receiving the final update to the stable Android 17 build. For all three devices, the firmware download is about 535MB. Some Galaxy S25 users who were not in the beta program also report receiving the stable update, which is around 3.8GB. This appears to be the start of the rollout, and wider availability may take a few more days. Besides the base S25, S25 Plus, and S25 Ultra, the Galaxy S25 FE and S25 Edge are also getting the update. For Galaxy device owners in other countries, the stable Android 17 update should roll out within the next couple of weeks. This release also ensures that Samsung matches its officially promised timeline of the update being available "within September." Samsung is currently in the middle of pushing the stable One UI 9 firmware for the Galaxy S26 series worldwide. The rollout began for phones in South Korea in mid-September, with owners in most other regions still waiting. One UI 9 brings more than Android 17 to Samsung’s 2025 flagships Besides Android 17, One UI 9 brings some of the Galaxy Z Fold 8's features to the Galaxy S25, Z Fold 7, and Z Flip 7. One of them is My FanCam, which uses AI to reframe a video after it's shot to keep the selected person in the frame. Another notable new feature is the enhanced Now Nudge functionality, which uses AI to offer proactive suggestions based on what's on your screen. For example, when someone shares a location in a conversation, Now Nudge will display a prompt to save it. The Quick Settings panel gets a customization upgrade in this update, enabling you to move the brightness and volume controls to the bottom for easier one-handed access. Other improvements in One UI 9 include improved privacy alerts, Motion Assist, improved document scanning, and an option to place the search bar at the bottom of the home screen.
