Samsung Galaxy owners report battery drain, overheating with latest updates

While the July 2026 update is the one that supposedly fixes battery drain issues on Google Pixel smartphones, it’s apparently the cause of some battery drain and overheating issues for certain Samsung Galaxy devices. A growing number of users on Samsung’s Community Forums have reported issues with intense battery drain following the July 2026 update, based on One UI 8.5. The complaints largely stem from the Galaxy S25 series and S24 series, especially on the Ultra devices. One Galaxy S25 Ultra paints a clear picture of what’s going on, with the July 2026 update having resulted in drastically higher battery usage despite less active screen time. This user traced the issue back to WhatsApp, which was getting stuck in its backup process following the installation of Samsung’s latest OTA update. While battery drain is the main concern for affected Samsung Galaxy users here, overheating is also being reported pretty widely. It’s unclear if this WhatsApp bug is the culprit, but we’ve seen more than one user reporting the same problem in these various forum posts. Regardless, though, it tracks back to starting with Samsung’s July update. Samsung has yet to acknowledge the problem as far as we’ve seen, but it stands to reason that next month’s update might be able to address the underlying issue.
