Samson Kayo & Sonny Valicenti Join Apple TV Comedy ‘Protective Custody’ As Series Regulars

EXCLUSIVE: Protective Custody, Apple TV‘s new comedy teaming Ben Stiller and Mike Judge, has brought aboard Samson Kayo (F1) and Sonny Valicenti (Mindhunter) for series regular roles. Character details for the duo are being kept under wraps. They join Stiller, his Escape at Dannemora collaborator Benicio Del Toro and Amy Sedaris in the cast. Hailing from Judge, as well as Steve Hely and Dave King, his collaborators on the Adult Swim series Common Side Effects, Protective Custody follows a disgraced financier accused of massive fraud who is thrown into protective custody, where he must navigate prison politics, salvage his reputation and confront the consequences of his actions while awaiting trial. The show will be co-written, co-showrun and exec produced by Judge, Hely and King, with Judge also attached to direct. We scooped it in May. Watch on Deadline Ben Silverman, Howard Owens and Rodney Ferrell are exec producing for Propagate Content, alongside Stiller and John Lesher for Red Hour, Michael Rotenberg and Oly Obst for 3 Arts Entertainment, Del Toro, Nanette Burstein and Blair Breard. A two-time BAFTA-nominated British actor, writer and comedian, Kayo’s credits include F1, House of the Dragon and the HBO Max pirate comedy Our Flag Means Death, to name just a few. Additionally, he co-created and starred in the UK sitcoms Sliced and Bloods. He is repped by Sophie Chapman Talent, Mosaic, CAA and Ziffren Brittenham. Valicenti has been seen recurring on Netflix’s Mindhunter, NCIS and the Showtime limited series Super Pumped, opposite Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Film credits include the Paramount comedy Office Christmas Party, Sundance indie Magazine Dreams, Steven Spielberg’s The Post and Andrew Dominik’s Blonde. He is repped by Stewart Talent and Schreck Rose.
