Samia Longchambon left with a challenge after learning the wrong Coronation Street script | Soaps Reporter Published September 3, 2026 1:03pm Updated September 3, 2026 1:04pm Samia Longchambon shares candid Corrie blunder (Picture: Ken McKay/ITV/Shutterstock) Coronation Street star Samia Longchambon found herself facing an unexpected challenge at work after discovering she’d prepared for completely the wrong scenes. The actress, who has played Weatherfield favourite Maria Connor for more than 25 years, shared the amusing filming mishap with fans on Instagram. And apparently, even after more than two decades of learning Corrie scripts, things don’t always go entirely to plan. Samia initially took to her Instagram Stories to show off the seriously warm coat she’d wrapped herself up in for a day of filming. With the weather seemingly taking a turn, she declared that ‘summer is over’ although the cold wasn’t the only surprise waiting for her when she got to work. Samia had arrived expecting to spend her day filming indoors, having already learned scenes that were due to take place in one of Weatherfield’s most familiar locations. Unfortunately, there was just one small problem: those weren’t actually the scenes she was filming. The actress took to Instagram to share the honest moment with fans (Picture: Samia Longchambon/Instagram) Explaining the mix-up to her followers, Samia wrote: ‘Also…I thought I was filming inside today doing scenes in Roy’s Rolls. Turns out I was filming outside and had learnt the wrong scenes. Had to learn ‘new’ stuff on the spot… Love a challenge’ Talk about being thrown in at the deep end. Instead of a cosy day filming inside Roy’s Rolls with all her lines safely learned, Samia suddenly had to get to grips with a completely different set of scenes, and do it on the spot. Luckily, if anyone knows their way around a day on the Coronation Street set, it’s Samia. The actress first became a regular on the ITV soap as Maria Sutherland, now Maria Connor, back in May 2000, when she was just 17. Maria originally arrived as a love interest for Tyrone Dobbs and worked as a kennel maid, but she has changed dramatically during her years on the cobbles. Since then, viewers have watched her deal with romances, marriages, motherhood, tragedy and plenty of classic Weatherfield drama. Maria has recently been caught in the middle of Gary and Sarah’s drama (Picture: ITV) Samia herself had already been acting before landing her famous Corrie role, with earlier credits including Cracker, Children’s Ward, Heartbeat and Doctors, as well as the film There’s Only One Jimmy Grimble. Away from the cobbles, she competed on Dancing on Ice in 2013, where she was partnered with professional skater Sylvain Longchambon. Their partnership ultimately became a romance, with the pair going on to marry in 2016. And Samia proved she has talents outside acting and skating too when she won the third series of Cooking with the Stars in 2023. Last year marked an impressive 25 years since she became a Coronation Street regular, and fans won’t have to worry about Maria disappearing from Weatherfield just yet either. At the beginning of 2026, it was reported that Samia had renewed her Corrie contract for another year, meaning there is still more to come from Maria. Although hopefully next time Samia heads onto set, she’ll get a little more warning about exactly which scenes she’s meant to have learned.
