Samara Weaving Is Marvel’s New Emma Frost

Marvel’s much-anticipated X-Men movie has just added some major star power, in both character and performer form. Samara Weaving (Ready or Not, Scream VI) has just signed on to play Emma Frost. Deadline was the first to report the news, though Marvel did not offer any comment or confirmation. The trade wrote, “After meeting with a number of candidates, director Jake Schreier and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige landed on Weaving earlier this week to tackle the role.” It also added this detail: “Schreier and Marvel execs have been meeting and auditioning actors for a number of roles, with the Frost character appearing to elicit the most thorough search among the new cast.” Emma Frost dates back to 1980’s The Uncanny X-Men #129 and was co-created by Chris Claremont and John Byrne. She has telepathic powers—among her numerous other talents—and has been both a villain and a heroic member of the X-Men team. Previously on the big screen, she’s been portrayed by Tahyna Tozzi (in 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine) and January Jones (in 2011’s X-Men: First Class). Thunderbolts helmer Schreier came aboard X-Men in 2025, and Lee Sung Jin (Beef) and Joanna Calo (The Bear) are writing the script. So far the movie does not have a title or a release date, but we’ll surely be learning more after Avengers: Doomsday, which will see several established members of the X-Men team bringing their powers to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
