The SUV of a Samajwadi Party MP was allegedly damaged in a stone-pelting incident during a Ganesh idol immersion procession in a village here, police said on Saturday (September 19, 2026).According to police, the incident happened late Friday night near Amardobha village in the Bakhira police station area, while an SP MP from Sant Kabir Nagar, Laxmikant alias Pappu Nishad, was returning after visiting a flood-hit area.Sources said people staging a roadside protest near Amardobha allegedly surrounded the MP's vehicle and pelted it with stones, shattering a window and damaging the vehicle. Police intervened and escorted the MP to a safe location. The incident occurred amid a dispute during a Ganesh idol immersion procession; the altercation began after police action against a DJ vehicle over loud music.Superintendent of Police (SP) of Sant Kabir Nagar Sandeep Kumar Meena said police received a complaint from the MP, and they are identifying those involved in the incident.He said police would take action against those found guilty.
