Salman-Arpita's Rakhi video with Jesus mural draws 'most secular' reactions

Bollywood superstar Salman Khan’s Raksha Bandhan celebration with his sister Arpita Khan Sharma has gone viral after a video on Instagram drew attention online. In the clip, Arpita is seen performing aarti and tying a rakhi to Salman, while a large mural of Jesus Christ featuring ‘The Last Supper’ is visible on the wall behind them.The video was filmed during the family’s Raksha Bandhan gathering at sister Alvira Khan Agnihotri’s home. It prompted several reactions on X, with some users jokingly calling it “the most secular thing on the internet today”.Arpita shared the video from the family celebration on Instagram. She was seen in a patterned white kurta with a matching dupatta, with her hair left open. Salman kept it casual in a T-shirt, jeans and a black cowboy-style hat. As Arpita carried out the Raksha Bandhan ritual, the mural in the background became a talking point on social media.Reacting to the video, an X user wrote, “This is the most secular video on internet today. A Muslim girl (Arpita Khan) married to a Hindu man (Aayush Sharma) ties a rakhi to her Muslim brother (Salman Khan) while a picture of Jesus is in the background (sic).” A second user wrote, “Muslim brother, Hindu sister with Jesus blessing them from behind.” Meanwhile Salman Khan and Arpita: “Wait... were we supposed to assemble the entire secular cinematic universe for Rakshabandhan?” India really said: why stop at one festival when you can unlock the full crossover episode (sic).” A third X user wrote, “Arpita tying a Rakhi to Salman with an illustration of Leonardo Da Vinci’s The Last Supper is such a shade of secularism India has; no matter how much it upsets a lot of people on either side of the religious and political aisle! (sic)”Salman was also seen outside the residence with multiple colourful rakhis tied around his wrist and a tilak on his forehead. When photographers asked him to show the rakhis, he briefly raised his wrist before getting into his car.What’s next for Salman KhanOn the work front, Salman is awaiting the release of Maatrubhumi, previously titled Battle of Galwan. The Apoorva Lakhia-directed film, which also stars Chitrangada Singh, has not been given a release date yet.
