Salaar 2: Prashanth Neel kickstarts pre-production on Prabhas' film

The pre-production work on Prabhas’ much-anticipated sequel to Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire has officially begun. A source close to the film confirmed to India Today that director Prashanth Neel and Hombale Films producer Vijay Kiragandur have re-teamed to kickstart work on the film, which is tentatively titled Salaar 2: Shouryaanga Parvam."The two recently had a meeting to chalk out the schedules and also lock the final script. The makers are aiming to deliver an unprecedented cinematic spectacle that exceeds massive fan expectations," the source said, while sharing an exclusive photo from the director and producer's meeting. In January, the makers had dismissed rumours that Salaar 2 had been shelved by sharing a behind-the-scenes photo featuring Prabhas and Shruti Haasan. In May, Neel also confirmed that he would return to the Salaar franchise after completing his upcoming film Dragon, which stars Jr NTR.The scale of Salaar 2 has been a talking point ever since the first film ended. Producer Vijay Kiragandur had earlier described the sequel as a major production and said it would be an "absolute behemoth", raising expectations around the film's action, world-building and overall canvas.All about Salaar: Part 1The sequel will take forward the story established in the first part, which released in December 2023 and revolves around the intense friendship between Deva (Prabhas) and Varadha Raja Mannar (Prithviraj Sukumaran). Set against the backdrop of the fictional kingdom of Khansaar, the film explores their complicated bond amid a violent battle for power.Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire ended on a major revelation, setting the stage for an even bigger conflict in the sequel. It was revealed that Deva belongs to the Shouryaanga tribe and is the rightful heir to the throne of Khansaar. Varadha, meanwhile, declares Deva as his Salaar, but the revelation surrounding Deva's lineage threatens to fundamentally alter their equation.The first film had already positioned the two childhood friends on opposite sides of Khansaar's power struggle, and the sequel is expected to delve deeper into their relationship, loyalty and betrayal.Prabhas and Prithviraj are expected to reprise their roles in the sequel, with Shruti Haasan, Sriya Reddy and Jagapathi Babu expected to return to the franchise. The first film also featured Bobby Simha, Tinnu Anand and Garuda Ram in important roles.For now, the makers have not announced an official release date for the sequel.
