Saints GM Mickey Loomis: I understand where Gayle Benson's concerns are coming from

Published October 21, 2026 09:27 AM Saints owner Gayle Benson said last week that the team’s performance has not been acceptable. Saints General Manager Mickey Loomis says he gets it.“I understood where she’s coming from, and I think every once in a while we all need to be a little uncomfortable. That’s OK,” Loomis said today in Paris, where the Saints will play on Sunday.Asked about building a winning team, Loomis acknowledged it hasn’t happened.“We haven’t done that yet, have we? This is an outcome-based sport, and it’s not good enough yet.”Still, Loomis says the Saints’ process is good, even if the results haven’t been. “I like the direction we’re going,” Loomis said. “We’re a young, developing team and we have to recognize that. I recognize that. We’ve got a young coach 22 games into his career. That’s where we’re at.”Saints quarterback Tyler Shough is showing promise, in Loomis’s opinion.“It all starts with the quarterback and I think we’re all excited about him,” Loomis said. “There’s still a lot of development. He’s 13 or 14 games. He hasn’t even started a full season yet.”Despite a 2-4 start, Loomis still believes this Saints team can win.“We didn’t get the outcomes that we were expecting or wanted, but they were there ready for us to take them. One of the things about a young team is they have to learn how to win, and we’re in that process.”
