Ryan Murphy Says a ‘Glee’ Reboot Script Is Done, So Please Prepare Accordingly

It’s been 11 years since Glee aired its final episode, but it looks like Gleeks might have something new to look forward to. Showrunner Ryan Murphy teased that he finished writing a Glee reboot script an hour before the American Horror Story season 13 premiere on September 23.The deliciously chaotic series ran for six years and followed a Midwestern high school show choir through their highs and lows, from teen pregnancies to landing dream roles on Broadway. Oh, and obviously, most of the stories were told through song, á la PG-13 High School Musical. The New Directions covered hits from all decades and even had artist-dedicated episodes for Madonna, Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, and more.Glee became a cultural phenomenon, drawing an average of 10 million viewers each week and landing more than 207 of its Glee Cast Version covers on the Billboard Hot 100. The show also won six Emmys and four Golden Globes during its run, making stars like Lea Michele and Darren Criss household names.That being said…why wouldn’t Ryan Murphy want to recreate that magic? Brad [Falchuk], Ian [Brennan], and I, who wrote all the first two seasons, have written something. I’ve been in touch with around 10 of the original cast members. It’s very sweet, and they all had a lot of questions, but they all were very enthusiastic about the idea.”Who is coming back for the Glee reboot?So, Ryan seemingly confirmed that 10 (!!) of the original cast members are “enthusiastic” about reprising their roles…but who’s actually coming back? I will always love Glee,” Lea Michele told E! News on September 13. “I love Ryan Murphy. It just holds such a special place in my heart for me.”Back in 2022, Jenna Ushkowitz also told E! News she’d consider returning “if Ryan was doing it and the right people were involved.” Others like Kevin McHale, Heather Morris, and Darren Criss echoed her sentiment when asked throughout the years, while Amber Riley and Chris Colfer suggested they wouldn’t return.In 2024, Jane Lynch told People “it would be so much fun” to play Sue Sylvester again, saying, “It’s a great character, and I think that, as she ages, 10 years older than the finale, I think there are other things to be added. I think it would be really fun to play Sue Sylvester 10 years later.”What will the Glee reboot be about?Who even knows, at this point?
