Ryan Gosling’s Vintage Ralph Lauren Jacket Stole the Show at Comic-Con

Imagine it’s Saturday afternoon and you’re sitting in the audience of Marvel’s panel at Comic-Con 2026. Ryan Gosling, dressed in a red denim jacket, white tee, and navy slacks, makes a surprise appearance, and the crowd erupts in bedlam when he announces he’s going to play Ghost Rider in a new reboot. It’s Q&A time. The mic swings your way. You ask him the burning question: “Is that a vintage 1980s Ralph Lauren jacket?”Sadly, we are not Ryan Gosling, nor were we there (ticket prices these days! Crazy!), but we can answer this question: Yes. Mark Avery, Gosling’s longtime stylist, told us himself. “It’s a vintage Polo from a flea market in Long Island, bought a couple of years ago,” he says.With its cropped length and the collar popped to show off the beige suede lining, it felt like a cross between Rebel Without a Cause-era James Dean and the Polo Bear. “James Dean is always an influence,” Avery explains, “but the process is less intentional, and sometimes you just land on a look and notice the influence later.”The look shows great timing from Gosling. Everyone and their dad is popping their collar right now—just last week, in fact, Colman Domingo flipped the collars of a Ralph Lauren jacket and polo, staying just on the right side of preppy. Similarly turned-up collars were spotted at London Fashion Week in February, as well as on the most recent runways of Bottega Veneta and Willy Chavarria.CHRIS DELMAS/Getty ImagesWhile a denim chore coat is always a safe, handsome bet for any guy, it felt like a fair distance from Ghost Rider’s spiky leather biker. Is the demonic motorcyclist set to switch things up? Will he stick to the pseudo-fetish-wear he’s known for, or will we see a Ghost Rider with an active Vinted account and a thing for soft vintage workwear? “I can’t say anything about the Ghost Rider jacket yet, but you can be rest assured that every detail will be considered,” Avery says. Then he teases Gosling’s other major franchise blockbuster, next year’s Star Wars: Starfighter: “I can’t wait for the world to see the Star Wars jacket!”Ghost Rider is, however, a story of an all-American hero—a story that Ralph Lauren has been telling for decades. Now beloved by Gen Z, the brand’s vintage grails command insane prices on the resale market. A neat play from Gosling, then, to dig out a true vintage, time-worn, ’80s-era classic from the Lauren archives, rather than something new.
