Russian forces launched drone attacks against Kharkiv early Sunday morning, Aug. 2, targeting the city’s Industrialnyi, Kyivskyi, and Saltivskyi districts and leaving at least three people injured. Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov reported that a Russian unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) struck the roof of a multi-story residential building in the Saltivskyi district. Kharkiv Regional Military Administration head Oleh Syniehubov confirmed that three residents – a 74-year-old man, an eight-year-old girl, and a 13-year-old boy – suffered acute stress reactions as a result of the attack. Medical personnel provided necessary assistance on-site. Mayor Terekhov also reported a strike in the Kyivskyi district, noting that Russian forces utilized a “Molniya” (Lightning) type drone. The “Molniya” is a low-cost, fixed-wing loitering munition, often constructed from plywood or plastic, designed to carry small explosive payloads over distances of 30 to 40 kilometers. Authorities are currently assessing the extent of the damage from this specific strike. Daytime attack on Mykolaiv gas station The overnight strikes on Kharkiv followed a daytime drone attack in the Mykolaiv region on Saturday, Aug. 1, which targeted a gas station and injured three civilians. According to the National Police of Ukraine, the strike occurred at approximately 1:45 p.m. local time. The attack injured a 61-year-old man, a 29-year-old woman, and a four-year-old girl. Medical teams treated the victims, who are currently receiving outpatient care. Massive attack on Ukraine These regional drone attacks occurred follow on the heels of a massive nationwide aerial barrage early Saturday morning. The widespread assault involved a total of 35 missiles and 185 attack drones of various types. The capital, Kyiv, was the primary target of the ballistic missiles. During the assault, Ukrainian air defenses intercepted just one of 27 Russian ballistic missiles due to a critical shortage of Patriot interceptors. President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed the interception failure, stating that the deficit of interceptor stockpiles actively encourages further strikes and urging international partners to expedite the delivery of anti-ballistic systems. The strikes on Kyiv triggered repeated explosions, killing nine residents and injuring 30 others, including four children. The attacks damaged 18 apartment and private residential buildings, a medical clinic, a film studio, supermarkets, and several vehicles. The building housing the Lithuanian embassy also sustained damage, and a depot containing 25 ambulances was severely hit. Strikes were also recorded across the Odesa, Dnipropetrovsk, Sumy, and Poltava regions, alongside a fatal daytime drone strike on a Rozetka logistics center in Brovary, Kyiv region, which killed a 61-year-old man and injured six others.
