An overnight Russian missile strike on ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih, Ukraine’s largest foreign-invested steelmaker, killed two workers and forced a partial shutdown of production on Aug. 16. ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih is Ukraine’s largest steelmaking enterprise and part of global steelmaker ArcelorMittal, one of the country’s major foreign investors. As a full-cycle metallurgical producer, the complex extracts iron ore and manufactures finished steel products, specializing in rebar and wire rod. The missile attack directly targeted critical power infrastructure and blast furnace facilities within the industrial complex, ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih reported.The strike killed two employees and injured 13 others, while emergency response teams launched search and rescue operations and activated emergency containment plans. Experts are currently assessing the extent of the damage and repair timelines. ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih exports its products primarily to the European Union, the Middle East, North Africa, and the United States. In 2025, the company generated Hr. 70.6 billion ($1.6 billion) in revenue and recorded a net loss of Hr. 8.9 billion ($199 million). The facility previously suffered a major Russian missile strike in 2022, which destroyed its section rolling shop and killed one employee.
