Russian Guided Bomb Tears Into Sumy Apartment Block, Killing 2, Injuring 8

A Russian guided aerial bomb tore into a nine-storey residential building in Sumy late Friday, killing two municipal employees and injuring eight civilians, including two children. The bomb struck between the third and fourth floors of the apartment block, triggering fires and leaving residents trapped beneath the rubble. Two city employees killed The two people killed were employees of the Sumy City Council executive committee, Mayor Artem Kobzar said. They were identified as a 52-year-old man and a 45-year-old woman. Eight people were injured, including children aged 7 and 13. At least three of the wounded were reported in serious condition. The attack also damaged at least four apartment buildings in Sumy’s Kovpakivskyi district. Rescuers search the rubble President Volodymyr Zelensky called the strike “absolutely inhuman.” “There was a direct hit by an aerial bomb between the third and fourth floors. Four people have already been rescued from under the rubble, including a child,” he said. Emergency workers continued dismantling the wreckage as officials warned that more people could still be trapped. “There may still be people trapped underneath. Rescuers are doing everything they can to extricate them and put out the fires,” the Ukrainian president said in a post on X.
